This pattern can be made into a coaster, ornament package tag, and more. See the bottom for the variations. Here is the basic coaster pattern.
Materials:
I Hook
Worsted weight cotton yarn(scraps are good for this)
Ch 3 Picot: Ch 3 and sl st into the 1st ch.
Ch 4, join to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 1, (sc, ch 3 in ring)5 times. Join.
Row 2: Ch 1, (sc in sc, in ch 3 loop do hdc, dc, ch 3, dc, hdc) repeat around.
Row 3: Sl st into next hdc, ch 1, (sc in hdc and dc, in ch 3 space do sc ch 3 picot, sc then sc in dc and hdc, skip next sc)
repeat around. Join and fasten off. Weave in ends.
Variations:
Ornament or package tag: Use a size 6 or 7 steel crochet hook and size 10 crochet cotton. When making the picots on row
3 ch 6 instead of 3 to make a loop for hanging. Continue on as in pattern. Starch or iron the star.
Hot pad: Use a size N hook and 3 or 4 strands of knitting worsted weight cotton yarn. Work the pattern the same. Makes a
thick pad to place a pot on.
